Blitz Game

Here is a Blitz game I played today. The opening is the Caro Kann. As you would know I am not a huge fan of the Caro Kann and I usually play the opening as White so with the game transposing to the Caro Kann and myself with the Black pieces I felt like I was already on the backfoot. But I managed to hold the position and my opponent went for a risky attack that allowed me to win the game.

YouTube Blitz

I have been checking out a few YouTube posts from the 2010 world blitz championship and have found some of the games quite interesting. Here is a match between Nakamura and Kramnik.

 

One thing I find interesting is that professional chess boards do not have notation. I know that obviously at this level of competition there is no need for it but I do still find it interesting. The wooden set does look pretty nice though!

Blitz Game

More blitz action!
One of my favourite opening is the Ruy Lopez. One that I want to continue to improve on!
Here is an example of this opening. Black plays Bd6 early in the game blocking his pawn and allowing white to take advantage of the game.

Blitz Game

This is yet another blitz game! This game shows a good example of a mating strategy that I find comes up quite frequently known as the smothered mate! The opening is the Sicilian defence although white seems to be playing more of an Italian style opening against it and blunders a few moves early in the opening.
