Puzzle Rush Score 28

Daily Study Today I played three blitz games. I won one and lost two. I had good positions in all of the games (I even blundered a full bishop and was still winning) and it was blunders in time trouble that led to the losses. Today I was excited to see that Maxime Vachier-Lagrave had a win in the Grand Swiss against the French Defense using the same line I have been working on that Carissa Yip used in the U.S Women’s Chess Championships.

It would be great to see Maxime finish in the top two and secure a spot in the Candidates Tournament.

Here is the game (annotations by Peter Doggers).

Daily Study I didn’t play any games today. I finished chapter three on rooks in How To Reassess Your Chess. I also thought about learning retention and how the learning pyramid (something I remembered from my teaching degree) may have an impact on chess development. What are your thought on learning retention and adult improvement in chess? What is the best way to learn?

Daily Learning I haven’t been working through any game collection books, so today I busted out My 60 Memorable Games to revisit the wonderful chess of Bobby Fischer. I went through one game today and I will try and go through a game each day or so. Two things stuck out from the game. 1. The line “Tactics flow from a superior position” and 2. Just the fact that the King’s Indian structure is a potential choice against some Sicilian lines. Also how nice is the move 18.Nxh7
