Newcastle Open 2012 – Round 2

I really enjoyed this game!

As you know I love the Ruy Lopez and this was a great game that followed the main line of the Ruy Lopez and allowed for the fun tactics and positions that arise in this opening. It was great to play an opponent that new the opening well as you could feel the struggle back and forth during the game. When I was analysing this with Fritz there were quite a few times were the advantage swayed between us.

I would have to say this was my favourite game of the tournament.

Here is my first game from the Newcastle Open that I played in recently.

This game was a fun one to start the tournament with. There were numerous different ideas to pick up and I enjoyed spotting the weaknesses and looking to take advantage of the position. Make sure you read the annotations that I have written so that you may understand my thoughts on the game!

If any of you watch the show Talkin’ ’bout your Generation you would know that they give a trophy to the winning team sent in by someone from home. On this weeks episode I was that person from home and that trophy was a chess trophy I won when I was in school. Below is a link to a clip that shows the trophy being introduced. You may have to watch an add or two before the clip begins.

In other news I scored 3 out of 6 at the Newcastle open this year. I had a great time at the tournament and felt that I did really well against the opponents I came up against. Keep your eyes out for more posts on the tournament!

A Little Time For Chess

During the past month I have been quite busy and have only had a small amount of time free to spend on chess. I have just started working at my new job as a primary teacher and I have been really enjoying it but it is taking up most of my time as I learn the ropes of teaching. I managed to sneak in some chess by covering my diary with chess puzzles.

Hopefully amongst the business I will be able to write some more posts for you all! I will be playing in the Newcastle Open this weekend so look out for posts of the games that I will play along with anything else I find interesting!
