Here is a blitz game where I face the Deferred Schliemann Defense. I mention in the annotations that I played against the Schliemann Defense in an over the board game against a young Anton Smirnov who is now a Grandmaster and Australia’s number one player. Click here to see that game.
This game had a few interesting ideas. I rarely face the Schliemann Defense, so it is an opening I need to look into a bit more, particularly as someone who loves to play the Ruy Lopez.
The 2021 Sinquefield Cup has finished and the winner of the tournament is Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. He had a great tournament and played really well. I thoroughly enjoyed watching his games and the commentary of the event. Here is one of Maxime’s wins against Jeffery Xiong where he is able to gain a great deal of space as white in the Ruy Lopez. Another defining feature of the game is the control of the h file and if the game were to have continued you would have seen the Rook heading to h7 giving white complete control of the position.

Another blitz game today.
I love playing the Ruy Lopez. There are a few mistakes in this game, but no horrible blunders. The game finishes with a nice version of the smothered mate.
Here is a fun blitz game I played with my favourite opening the Ruy Lopez. I missed a few decisive moves, but overall I played fairly well in the game.
