Sicilian Defense

It Has Been a While!

Hello all!
I haven’t posted something chess related in quite some time.
I have had some chess down time and only started playing games again a few months back.

I thought I would post one of my correspondence games that I have played on Gameknot recently as I really enjoyed it!
I was inspired by a game between Caruana and Gelfand, played at the 8th Tal Memorial this year. You can view that game below.

The game above was an exciting example of the Sicilian Najdorf variation and I wanted to give it a go! My game just happened to follow the same variation, the moves are not quite identical but reach the same position all the way to move 17. After that I made some mistakes as did my opponent, but I ended up with a nice mating attack to win the game.

Blitz Game

Hi all!
Here is a blitz game that I played recently that I enjoyed. I am sure it is far from perfect but it was still a fun game. The opening is the Sicilian Defence – Najdorf variation. I used to play the Sicilian a lot when I was younger but have not been playing it much lately due to the vast variations that need to be learnt to open with confidence. I have mainly been sticking to Anti-Sicilian variations when playing the white pieces and playing e5 after e4 with the black pieces. However, I have decided that I am now up to the challenge and am ready to tackle the most popular opening in chess once again, well I think I am?!

Blitz Game

This is yet another blitz game! This game shows a good example of a mating strategy that I find comes up quite frequently known as the smothered mate! The opening is the Sicilian defence although white seems to be playing more of an Italian style opening against it and blunders a few moves early in the opening.
